Welcome. The summer is upon us and folks are leaving for vacation. That creates some interesting dynamics in many workplaces. We all deserve our vacations, that’s for sure. When it means covering for others or not meeting customer’s or client’s expectations, it can be stressful. Of course, when you are the one on vacation, you can forget all that. Or, can you? Returning from vacation is the very thing that causes Americans to be the workers in the world with a dubious honor: we take the fewest days of vacation each year. Did you know that the average days of vacation in France is 36? Got your passport in order? GOT YOURS YET? the 2nd edition of Wrestling Rhinos: Conquering Conflict in the wilds of work!

KEEP READING….there is something very special for you coming…. Sometimes, we simply forget to relax and acknowledge the nature of things. We think we are indispensable and the mountain of work waiting for our return seems to confirm that suspicion. Relax. If you are taking good care of yourself on a daily basis, you can do your best work. That includes allowing yourself to re-create. That’s the basis of recreation, you know. It’s not time to take on renovating the house, it is time to relax, refresh, renew and rebalance. Remember, you’re in charge! So, you may be thinking that that is a pie-in-the-sky view. When else will the basement get cleaned and the landscaping completed? Break those tasks into do-able chunks on weekends. Give yourself a vacation. VACATE FROM YOUR USUAL LIFE! I’ve been busy creating new websites and offerings for you. I invite you to visit the section below with the UPCOMING opportunities for you to enhance your skills and your success both personally and professionally. We are all receiving so much email, so, The Rhino Wrestler will be a monthly publication from now on with an Events update between issues. This will give you the opportunity to know about the teleseminars that you and your team can benefit from as they become available. It will be a short update that you can read in less than 90 seconds, I promise! Please share this newsletter with all your colleagues and friends and encourage them to subscribe. I really appreciate your help with reaching new people with these insights and skills. Get their attention by including a note from you about what you find valuable each month. And, thanks for the help. Happy summer. Rhoberta Rhoberta Shaler, PhD INSPIRING WORDS FOR YOUR POST-IT™ NOTES
IMPROVING YOUR WORKLIFE:Why Do You Go To Work Every Day? Why DO you go to work everyday beyond the obvious source of income? Is that the only reason you go? Hopefully not. It’s a question worth considering. I was giving a seminar for a large group of engineers recently on my topic, Substance & Style: Secrets That Make All Relationships Easier. That topic engenders both insights and understanding of ourselves and others as it is based on the only instrument I use for my coaching and consulting. (www.CoreValuesProfile.com) As the seminar unfolded, I asked folks to get up and go to the four corners of the room to illustrate their guesses as to which primary core value they held. The results were interesting. The proportionate numbers in each group were very different than with other professions. This is a good thing! Clearly, the engineers were drawn to their work because it suited their core values, yet, that would likely not have been the conscious deciding factor in choosing the profession. Why not? Because they would have chosen it on interest and ability, rather than on the likelihood of the profession meeting their core values needs. Using those values to narrow career choices is a very wise and seldom used method. How did you choose your work? In the case of the happy entrepreneur, it is much more than not wanting to work for someone else. There are many deeper reasons. The opposite is also true. Why do some folks know they would shrivel up if they were forced to be entrepreneurs. It all has much to do with our core spiritual values. Not spiritual in the sense of religious, but, spiritual in the sense of natural desires to express ourselves—from our spirit. The Webster’s dictionary defines ‘spirit’ in these ways:
It is difficult to have esprit de corps, ”the common spirit existing in the members of a group and inspiring enthusiasm, devotion and strong regard for the honor of the group” without it! And, that’s what high-performance, productive, profitable teams create. So, why do you go to work? Does the work itself satisfy you? Here are some questions that can help you determine the driving and motivating forces that are satisfied by your career and workplace choices:
Knowing what you value at work and that what you value IS valued at work are the keys to a successful, satisfying career. Why DO you go to work every day? Think on this. It can make all the

Excellent communication skills are essential to every person in business. That is why I wrote the book, Wrestling Rhinos: Conquering Conflict in the Wilds of Work. This book offers much more than conflict and anger management skills. It has been reviewed as "a book needed in every business library" by world-renowned speaker and sales expert, Jim Cathcart. Written in an easy-to-read, down-to-earth style, the book uses actual scenarios and practical examples to bring you the insights and skills to manage relationships at work and turn confrontation into communication. Now in its second, expanded, English edition, Wrestling Rhinos, is currently being published in Chinese, Taiwanese and Russian. I have created a series of teleseminars on the topics covered in Wrestling Rhinos. This is an excellent way for entrepreneurs, executives and employees to get the specific conflict or anger management, communication and negotiation skills they need without ever leaving their desks. These teleclasses can be customized for an industry group. For more information on these programs, visit: www.OptimizeInstitute.com
